We evaluated each prop firm on five criteria: market access (how many asset classes), rule transparency (are all rules published upfront), payout speed (how fast traders get paid), pricing fairness (entry cost relative to account size), and platform quality (trading tools and infrastructure).

What to look for in a prop firm

When choosing a prop trading firm, these are the factors that matter most:

  1. Drawdown type - Static drawdown (calculated from starting balance) is more forgiving than trailing drawdown (calculated from peak equity). A winning trade that retraces won't breach you with static drawdown.
  2. Profit split - Look at what you actually keep. Some firms start at 50-60% and make you earn higher splits over time.
  3. Payout speed - How fast do you get paid? Some firms take 2+ weeks. Best-in-class is 1-2 days.
  4. Market access - If you trade crypto or futures, make sure the firm supports those markets. Most prop firms are forex-only.
  5. Time limits - Unlimited evaluation time means no pressure. Some firms give you 30-60 days which adds unnecessary stress.
  6. Hidden rules - Read the fine print. Some firms have consistency rules, lot size restrictions, or news trading bans that aren't obvious upfront.
